Your stories have such vivid characters—do you draw inspiration for them from real people, or are they entirely imagined?

Most of the time, my characters are Frankensteined from elements or impressions of people I’ve met, characters from other fiction I’ve been enjoying, and combinations of personality traits I’ve made up. I like to think about a characters motivation, understanding how a character has justified their actions to themselves helps me to paint a more vivid and realistic version of people, regardless of whether they’re heroes or villains or something in between.

If one of your characters could step off the page and live in our world, who would you choose and why?

I would love to meet the version of the Carter Sisters that I created in my book, Carter and Carter Detective Agency. These two characters are heavily inspired by Louise and Megan Carter, who are real friends of mine, who they have been filtered through my writer’s brain. They’re living the private eye dream with their own agency and are pretty kickass.

What part of writing your latest book surprised you the most—something you didn’t expect when you started?

My most recent book, A Wolf of His Own, coming out in mid-November 2025, is a wolf-shifter MM romance. While I was writing I was worried it didn’t have enough action, and so a pretty gnarly subplot was born in a place I didn’t expect. I can’t give too much away, but when one of your main characters is a police officer, there’s plenty of scope for criminal activity to add interest to the plot.

Do you have a favorite scene or line from your books that holds special meaning for you?

I’d have to say the recurring ending: ‘You failed, go back and try again.’ This happens a number of times in my two branching narrative novels, Carter and Carter Detective Agency, and my first published book, Sophie’s Path. I loved of branching narrative novels when I was younger, in the style of the Choose Your Own Adventure books, and I’ve had some great feedback from readers on these two, though they’re much harder to write than I expected when I started to write them.

What can readers look forward to next in your writing journey—are there hints you can share about upcoming projects?

I have one new novella scheduled for release in mid-November, A Wolf of His Own, which is a sequel to my earlier novella, Pillion for a Police Officer. It’s set in the same fictional Californian town of San Destino. I’m also part way through writing a novella to set to appear in the Secrets Between Us anthology, which will be released in September 2026 for authors appearing at the Secrets in the Pages book signing event in Bendigo. That’s a spicy romance with a fun, low-stakes secret to be revealed. I also have a few other ideas bubbling away, including a third book in the San Destino series, and lots of other exciting stuff I can’t tell you about yet! Stay tuned on my website for updates.
